World Nuttela Day

Today is World Nutella Day, a day to eat, drink and celebrate Nutella. For some this chocolaty hazelnut spread is a pantry staple and can be found in the supermarket trolley every couple of weeks. I grew up eating lots of it and enjoyed a nutella sandwich on fresh sliced bread for morning tea most days.

A favorite Paris memory of mine is having a freshly made Nutella crepe from a cafe on the Champs Elysees on a cool autumn afternoon. I had noticed people walking around eating crepes and before I knew I was standing in line waiting to order one for myself. I had never had a nutella crepe before and it instantaneously became a favourite. When I returned home I tried a few recipes and came up with the one below that made my taste buds happy.

Miss Rens Nutella Crepe Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoon of butter (melted) and a bit more for the pan
  • ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1½ tablespoons of sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 and a bit cups of milk ( more than 1 and less thank 1½ cups)
  • Nutella
  • strawberries

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, egg, butter, sugar, salt and half the milk. Whisk the batter well then add the rest of the milk a little at a time, until the batter is smooth and lump free.
  2. Melt a bit of butter in frying pan. Slowly pour in the batter and and let it cook for a couple of minutes on medium heat till little bubbles start to appear and the underside is lightly browned. Run a spatula underneath the crepe and flip it over. Cook until the other side is lightly browned. Remove from heat.
  3. Spread nutella over the crepe and then fold it in half.
  4. Cut up some strawberries and pop them on top.
  5. Eat it while it’s still hot.

Happy Nutella Day!
