As the name suggest a Non Specific Catastrophe Kit is a survival kit for a non specific catastrophe.  A catastrophe as defined on dictionary.com is A sudden and widespread disaster. 

Storms, floods, earthquakes and other activities

30 days into January and there have been numerous natural disasters around the world including, severe storms, flooding, earthquakes, volcanic activity, landslides and cyclones. On top of this The World Bank has come out and said the global economy is on the edge of a new financial crisis. Holy Moly! Plus, there are some who believe that these events are a lead up to December 21, 2012, when the world as we know it will cease to exist. All very doom and gloom so far.

With so much talk about the happenings in the world I thought I would write about being prepared for a non specific catastrophe by having a kit that can serve you in any situation. My N.S.C.K came about by accident when I realised I had a small stock pile of first aid kits accumulating under the stairs. Without realising it I had started buying first aid kits every time I went grocery shopping. Not sure what to do with a small mountain of first aid kids at first and to hide my semi neurotic behaviour I put them in a box and there they stayed till I got the idea for a N.S.C.K.

Preparing for storms, floods, earthquakes and other activities

At present my N.S.C.K contains16 first aid kits, 20 litres of water, a torch, solar lamps, latex gloves, antibacterial wipes, lots of baked beans, toilet paper, lighters and candles. I still have more to add to this but should a non specific catastrophe strike I’ll be able to tend to small cuts and grazes, have something to eat and drink and find the bathroom in the dark.

Like a scout, I’d like to think I’m prepared if disaster strikes, if it doesn’t then I’ve got about 10 years worth of band aids to get through.
